How Much Does It Cost to Move a 1,500 Sq Ft House?

Budget a 1,500-square-foot house move using inventory, access, crew time and current JEM rates. See clearly labeled labor examples rather than a made-up flat price.

A 1,500-square-foot house cannot be priced accurately from floor area alone. The inventory, packing, access, driving route and actual crew time determine the moving work. Use the current JEM labor scenarios below to understand the arithmetic, then request a quote for your own rooms and belongings.

The examples are hypothetical billable-hour scenarios, not a prediction that a home of this size will take a particular number of hours. They exclude other moving charges unless expressly identified.

Replace square footage with a room-by-room inventory

List beds, dressers, seating, tables, appliances that are included and approximate carton counts. Add garage, patio, attic and storage contents rather than assuming the living area captures everything. Identify items staying behind or traveling with you.

Two homes with the same floor area may contain very different shipments. A lightly furnished house and one with filled shelving, large furniture and a garage workshop do not need the same handling plan.

Compare time scenarios without treating them as a forecast

JEM's current rate reference below shows three-mover labor at three, four and six billable hours. Multiplying the crew-hour rate by those hours gives a labor amount. The table separately illustrates the fee and tax on that labor slice, while excluding dispatch, travel, fuel, packing, access and other services.

The actual quote applies its charge policy to the complete service subtotal. Do not take a partial labor illustration as a complete estimate or choose a crew only because one scenario looks lower. Ask JEM to assess crew size and likely work from the inventory.

Describe both properties' access

Report stairs, elevators, gated entry, permitted parking and the carrying distance. Include delivery conditions even if the destination is smaller. A short journey across Jacksonville can still involve time-consuming handling at either end.

For a Jacksonville Beach condo, confirm building reservations. For a larger lot or a Ponte Vedra community, describe the actual truck approach and route to the door. These are property-specific questions, not automatic assumptions about a neighborhood.

Decide who packs and prepares furniture

If you pack yourself, complete suitable cartons before the loading appointment and label their destination rooms. Ask about disassembly, reassembly and protection for delicate pieces. Packing labor and materials should be requested rather than assumed included.

For pianos, safes, pool tables or unusual pieces, send dimensions and useful access photographs. Specialty work may need a separate handling review. A home-size estimate does not approve every heavy item in the house.

Build a complete budget before booking

Review the full scope, estimated labor, fixed charges, selected extras, fee and tax. Ask how additional full-hour billing works and how a changed inventory is approved. Keep separate costs, such as your own storage or container rental, in your household budget.

Use the virtual survey, current cost guide y crew-size questions. Then build an itemized JEM quote that describes your actual 1,500-square-foot home.

Current JEM crew rates and minimum labor

These rates come from the same rate card as the quote planner. Each rate is for the whole crew, not per person. Minimum labor below excludes all other charges; it is not an all-inclusive move price.

ServicioPer crew hourMinimum hoursMinimum labor only
Local: 2 movers + truck$180.002$360.00
Local: 3 movers + truck$220.003$660.00
Labor only: 2 movers$160.002$320.00
Labor only: 3 movers$200.003$600.00
Labor only: 4 movers$260.003$780.00

Additional moving time is billed in full-hour increments after the agreed minimum. The written estimate and bill of lading record the time and charges. Dispatch, travel, fuel, stairs, elevators, carrying distance, packing, materials and selected extras can add to these labor amounts. JEM's current charge policy adds a 3% service fee and 7% tax on services plus the fee. The quote itemizes these amounts.

Hypothetical three-mover labor examples

These are arithmetic scenarios using the current local three-mover rate, not predictions of how long a 1,500-square-foot home or any other shipment will take. They exclude dispatch, travel, fuel, materials, access and all other moving charges.

Billable crew hoursLabor onlyFee on laborTax on labor + feeLabor + its fee and tax only
3$660.00$19.80$47.59$727.39
4$880.00$26.40$63.45$969.85
6$1,320.00$39.60$95.17$1,454.77

The actual quote applies fee and tax to the complete service subtotal. These partial examples do not include the fee or tax on excluded charges. Request an itemized quote for your inventory and route.
