Start requesting moving quotes as soon as your date is reasonably clear. Four to six weeks ahead is a practical planning target when possible, with extra time for complex moves or tightly restricted building access. This is preparation advice, not a JEM booking deadline or a promise of availability.
If your move is closer, contact the office now with a clear inventory and route. The useful next step is to establish what can be arranged, rather than assume it is either too late or automatically available.
Separate preparation from a reserved crew
A quote request tells the office about the move. A saved planning estimate records the proposed work. Neither alone means that a crew and truck are reserved. Follow the scheduling, agreement and deposit steps shown for your JEM move, and keep the confirmed details.
Ask about anything unclear before paying. An estimated arrival window is different from a guaranteed arrival time; read the applicable JEM booking terms and the agreement for your move.
Work backward from the restrictions
List lease deadlines, closing dates, key access and any elevator or loading reservation. A building may allow moves only within particular hours. Confirm the arrangements at both properties and tell the office before selecting a window.
If dates remain uncertain, explain that uncertainty. Ask how a change would be handled, including availability and any disclosed rescheduling charge. Do not reserve an unusable date simply to make the calendar look settled.
Give larger or more complicated moves more lead time
A large inventory, a separate packing visit, specialty pieces, multiple pickups or a long-distance delivery can require more coordination. Share the complete scope early, including photographs or a virtual survey where requested. Confirm the actual service and route instead of assuming a bedroom count captures the whole job.
Florida's consumer moving guidance suggests allowing two to six weeks for planning and preparation. Treat that as a preparation range, not a guaranteed opening in a particular company's schedule.
Handle a short-notice request with a complete brief
Provide the date, addresses, inventory, stairs, elevators, parking and services needed. Say whether cartons are finished or packing help is required. If you already have transport, specify loading, unloading or both.
Same-day JEM moving requests currently carry a separate $200 fee and remain subject to availability. A future move booked at short notice is a different situation; ask what charges apply. See the urgent moving guide.
Use the remaining time well
Finish the inventory, label rooms, arrange personal essentials and confirm access. Report material changes before arrival so the office can update the scope. Use the ready-for-the-crew checklist alongside your written plan.
Begin with the JEM quote planner and ask the team to confirm the booking steps for your dates. A realistic schedule is more useful than an assumed reservation.
